Kraljevo – On September, 16th 2014 a cheque for € 8,000 and a VIKING lawn mower were presented to delighted representatives of the SOS Children's Village in Serbia. The gifts were handed over by Dijana Peskir, Managing Director of STIHL Serbia, who is responsible for sales of the VIKING and STIHL brands in Serbia. "We are delighted that VIKING has decided to support this SOS Children's Village and is therefore playing a key role in helping children and families in need," declared Dijana Peskir.
VIKING, the gardening power tool manufacturer based in Austria, has been an active sponsorship partner of the SOS Children's Village since 2005. This year, this wonderful partnership can look back on a ten-year history. In recent years, VIKING has supported various SOS Children's Villages both in Austria and internationally. In 2014, the company wished to make a contribution in Serbia and found a project there that is exceptionally deserving of support. VIKING is part of the STIHL Group and produces and sells lawn mowers and other gardening power tools. In Serbia, the VIKING brand is sold by STIHL Serbia.
The SOS Children's Village has been active in Serbia since 1970. In times of war, in particular, it helped people to overcome extremely difficult circumstances. At the SOS Children's Village in Kraljevo children who have lost their parents or can no longer live with their families find a loving welcome into a family-like environment, the SOS Children's Village family. Young adults can later move into special houses and flats, where trained professionals can help them find their way to an independent life. In 2010, families and communities in Kraljevo suffered the effects of Serbia's strongest earthquake for 30 years and were aided by the SOS Children's Village. As a result of the earthquake, hundreds of people were injured and thousands lost their homes. The SOS Children's Village introduced emergency measures to assist the affected communities, helping children to return to normality.
The SOS Children's Village also offered assistance to families affected by this year's Balkan floods. In all three affected countries – Serbia, Bosnia-Herzegovina and Croatia – SOS staff distributed relief supplies, nappies, baby food, canned food, disinfectant and cleaning utensils.
